...back from my Tahiti trip on the R3. It was the best cruise I have
ever been on. Renaissance does a wonderful job of getting the passengers
from the airport to the ship in a minimum amount of time. There were some
complaints about staying at the hotel on the way back, but given the option of
going to the airport and sitting there or spending it at
the hotel, I would
prefer the hotel. I must say after the food on the ship the buffet at the
hotel left much to be desired.
We ate most of our dinners in the Club, but did have one dinner in the Grill
and one in the Italian restaurant. I preferred the Club overall, although
the Grill was nice and the Italian restaurant was alright. We ate most of
our breakfasts and lunches at the buffet. The pizza was very good.
We went to all of the shows and thought they were good maybe not as spectacular
and flashy as some to the ships, but overall good.
We took all circle island tours and reserved them through Renaissance and
were very pleased. We could have made arrangements on the dock, as there
certainly were enough tour people there, but decided since we are 2 senior
citizen ladies we did not want to take a chance that we wouldn't get a good
tour.
We had wonderful weather, it was hot in the sun but the air was nice and
clear. We had rain one night and 15 minutes one day toward the end
of the cruise.
The only thing I was disappointed in was the air schedule that Renaissance
set up for us. We left from Newark, NJ on 5/21 at 8 a.m. and arrived in
LAX at 11:20 a.m. and were on the 3:15 p.m. flight to Tahiti and that wasn't too
bad, but coming back we were on the 5/31 10 p.m. flight out of Tahiti and
arrived at LAX on 6/1 at 9 a.m. and had to wait until 3:30 p.m. for a flight to
Newark which was delayed until 4:40 p.m. and we didn't get on the plane until 5
p.m. and arrived in Newark on 6/2 at 1 a.m. They did put us on non-stop
flights, so that was good, but I think they could have come up with an airline
that had a return flight out of LAX to Newark around noon. If I had to do
it again, I would book my own flight to LAX with an overnight at a hotel both
ways.
But all in all, it was a wonderful trip with fabulous, friendly people in the
dining rooms and buffet. I liked the open dining plan and we met a lot of
nice people that way. The 2 offers of having your laundry done for $10 was
a nice surprise.
I am looking forward to my next Renaissance cruise.
