This is just selected information from our Disney CRUISE
LINE 2000 - 2002 VACATIONS brochure. Believe it or not this is from your
friendly family oriented Disney CRUISE LINE. Note, with portions of these
terms and conditions, other cruise lines may be similar. Our
interpretation and the actual quote, always within quotes, will be provided, so
you can make your own interpretation. In addition when we called Disney
Cruise Line, their representative verified all that is below.
Regardless of any of these strange facts, also note that we are expecting to
have a wonderful time.
THE CRUISE CONTRACT
The actual quote from the Disney CRUISE LINE brochure (the
boldface in the quote is not Disney's):
"Your ticket is in the Cruise Contract which is
enclosed in every document package. You will receive this package
within 28 days of sailing."
Disney Cruise line states that when there are conflicts
in the information from their brochure,
advertisements or offers, or what their agents
say or write AND the CRUISE CONTRACT, then the CRUISE CONTRACT will be
the deciding source of information. To us this means that
any wrong information advertised, offered, or said can not be relied upon
(trusted). It seems strange that a company would be willing to take
this position with their customers. Since you also do not have the CRUISE
CONTRACT until within 28 days of sailing, your position is even worse, since you
are inside the time frame which would allow for 100% of your money back.
The actual quote from the Disney CRUISE LINE brochure:
"In the event of conflict between the terms and
conditions contained in the Cruise Contract, these Terms and Conditions, the
terms of any Disney Cruise Line advertisement or offer, and the oral or
written representations of any Disney Cruise Line representative, the
terms and conditions contained in the cruise contract shall hold."
VALUABLES
The actual quote from the Disney CRUISE LINE brochure:
"You should retain valuables such as cash,
negotiable securities or other financial instruments, gold, silverware, jewelry,
ornaments, works of art, photographic/video/audio equipment or supplies, laptop
computers, cellular phones or other valuables in your personal control as
Disney Cruise Line is not responsible for damage or loss of these items."
It seems just about everyone would bring cash, and some
sort of jewelry, and many would bring a camera. On our cruises and
investigation of cruises, we've heard of valuables being stolen from cabins.
We were told cabins have safes, so you can be sure Disney Cruise Line personnel
will be able to open them for the next guest. I guess Disney
Cruise Line is saying they are not going to be responsible. That's a
lot to carry with you at all times and I suppose one good reason to carry
Travelers Checks. Try not to get your camera wet when swimming in the
pool.
CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS
Apparently, for inside of 60 days of sailing, you will
receive less than a full refund, similar to other cruise lines. Penalties
will be assessed. The actual quote of those penalties from the Disney
CRUISE LINE brochure:
". 59-30 days prior to vacation commencement
date, $100 per guest
. 29-15 days prior to vacation
commencement date, $300 per guest
. 14-8 days prior to vacation
commencement date, 50% of vacation price per guest
. 7 days or less prior to vacation
commencement date, no refund"
Strangely enough, depending on what was paid for the
cruise, one might be penalized less by waiting for an earlier period. For
example, the 29-15 days period would call for a penalty of $1200 for four
guests, say two adults and two children. If the total for those for
guests was under $2400, it would pay to wait for the 14-8 days period to cancel.
We may add to the information above. Again, note
this information comes from the Terms and Conditions section of the Disney Line
brochure. If you have received the Cruise Contract within 28 days of
sailing as stated above, and do not like the terms, you will be assessed $300
per guest if you decide to cancel at that time. If you plan to take many
valuables with you, you might consider wearing a garment with many large pockets
(to carry the valuables about with you). In addition, now that you
have read all this, if the Cruise Contract conflicts with any or all of this
information above, what you have just read is irrelevant. Is
this the same Disney as when Walt Disney was alive? M-I-C-K-E-Y
